This large banner with a photo of Sakineh Mohammadi, and Iranian mother who has been sentenced to death by stoning, for an alleged extra-maritial affair, was hanging from the terrace of the Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza Signoria. Our Mayor, Matteo Renzi, who was also recently given one of the highest approval ratings in Italy says he wants to protest against the sentencing of this woman. He said "This image is to remember that Florence is always on the side of freedom, that the city will always be the Palatine Electress side of freedom of women".
It is absolutely astonishing to me that these types of things are continuing to happen across our globe. We need to bring more awareness to the mistreatment of women, particularly in the Middle East.
